  • Honor has released MagicBook Pro, MagicBook 14 and MagicBook 15 laptops with AMD Ryzen 4000 chips.
  • The 16-inch model is after the MacBook Pro and offers desktop-class cooling.
  • There are also Honor Pad 6 and X6 tablets with Android.

Honor is best known for its phones, but the highlight at IFA 2020 could be the laptop line. The Huawei brand is presenting three MagicBook models at the fair, which use all variants of the AMD processors of the Ryzen 4000 series.

The MagicBook Pro (pictured) is a not-so-subtle challenger to the MacBook Pro with a color-accurate 16.1-inch 1080p display in a case with a footprint that resembles a 15.6-inch system. It uses the mid-size, six-core Ryzen 5 4600H chip, but Honor claims it has "desktop-class" cooling with two fans and heat pipes that should give it an edge over some of its competitors. It reportedly outperforms a competitor with an eight-core Ryzen 7 4700U.

The system has 16 GB of RAM and a solid-state drive of 512 GB. You can also expect a pop-up webcam, a 65W fast charger, and a relatively light body weighing just 1.7kg.

If you don't need a large portable device, there are updated versions of the MagicBook 14 and 15 with Ryzen 5 4500U chips that allow multi-core speeds to increase by about 33.7% over their predecessors while improving heat dissipation. They support up to 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, although there will be lower spec models with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. You can expect a battery life of up to 10.5 hours.

Honor rounds off the launch with its first globally available tablets, the 9.7-inch Honor-Pad 6 and the 10.1-inch Honor-Pad X6 (above). Both support the company's Magic Pencil, pack stereo speakers, and offer special eBook modes for avid readers. At just 7.6mm thick and weighing 1 pound, they're easy to carry.

As with newer Huawei Android devices, you'll need to use AppGallery to get more software.
