Honeymoon Trends from Kuoni

If you’re planning your honeymoon, then chances are you’ve already heard of Kuoni – they offer a huge range of honeymoon (and holiday) options around the world, from your typical sun-and-sea package to customisable multi-centre options and private tours. Kuoni recently got in touch to tell me that they’ve put together an infographic that details the most popular destinations and activities for British newlyweds on their honeymoon, which I’m delighted to be able to share with you today, before it goes live on their site on Monday. It’s an interesting read; though the list of the most popular destinations aren’t a surprise, I was interested to see that the average length of a honeymoon is just eight days – which probably is something of a reflection of the current economic climate. Again, there’s no surprise to see that beach honeymoons are the most popular choice – totalling 60% when you combine the “city and beach” with “romantic beach” honeymoons – though I am a little surprised to see that the other options, especially safaris, don’t account for a higher percentage in this day and age (but then that probably reflects my own preferences more than anything else) – but it would be nice to have an idea of what the 17% of “other” honeymoons constitute. It’s good to see that 35% of couples are asking for cash or vouchers towards their honeymoons – honeymoon gift lists have really taken off in recent years, and make a great alternative to more traditional wedding lists.

It’ll be interesting to see how these trends change over the next five or ten years, not least to see whether other destinations become more popular, whether people are still going on “helpfulmoons” and “adventuremoons” (though I have to admit to completely cringing at these terms – can’t we just call them all honeymoons?), or whether less traditional honeymoons are become more popular.
