@Van Nuys Airport, CA
January 2017
This was my second encounter with a HondaJet, this one greeting the guests at a private event held at Clay Lacy Aviation. First flown in 2003, FAA certification was finally achieved in late 2015 with 16 delivered in 2016. Placement of jet engines above the wing has been done before by other companies and was chosen for the HondaJet to maximize cabin space and achieve lower wave drag at a high Mach number. Honda claims that the combination of lightweight materials, aerodynamics and efficient engines gives the HondaJet up to 20% better fuel efficiency than similar aircraft.
