Homemade Non-Toxic Disinfectant

By Shazia @diary_of_a_home

Disinfectants are an essential component of every day cleaning rituals. After using bleach to clean and disinfect my house for over a decade, I am trying to switch to non-toxic products like my Homemade Glass Cleaner or DIY Homemade Mouthwash. This becomes even more important when you have babies or small kids in your house.
Today I will share with you a very simple and easy DIY disinfectant spray recipe that you can use all around the house to keep it germ free.
I use this spray to disinfect my kitchen bin, cutting boards and kitchen counter tops. Sometimes I even disinfect door knobs and not to forget the toilet seat.
It is a very simple recipe, basically you need two spray bottles. Fill one with vinegar and water in equal proportions and fill the other one with 3% hydrogen peroxide. It's always better to keep the hydrogen peroxide in the original brown bottle which contains it, to prevent it from decomposing.
You can even fit it with the spray top to make things easier.
Now you have two separate sprays one with diluted vinegar, I always add a few drops of lemon essential oil to make it smell better. The other one would contain 3% hydrogen peroxide.
In order to disinfect any surface you first have to spray the vinegar solution followed by the hydrogen peroxide spray.
This method was developed by a food scientist and is also effective in killing e coli and salmonella along with other bacteria. Wasn't that simple and easy but above all its safe unlike bleach it doesn't leave any toxic residue behind. Just keep in mind that you are not supposed to mix the two solutions , use the method as described and it will definitely help.
What kind of natural products are you using these days?
