Alcopop! Records’ signing Home Counties have shared new single ‘Modern Yuppies’. The self-produced song finds the band moving away from their previous indie-pop guitar sound to something more freaky and funky. Laced with synths, drum machines and an irresistible disco beat before throwing in what sounds like retro computer games effects, think somewhere between David Byrne and Working Men’s Club and you’ll get the gist.

Meanwhile, the lyrics take aim at how ambition has been replaced by anxiety over the past few decades: ‘The song is a comparison between the young urban professionals of the 1980s to those of today. It discusses the differences, the way that arrogance and conservatism have made way for self-doubt and socially ‘liberal’ political positions. Ultimately however, they are both plagued by the same condition – of constantly needing more.’
