Gypsy Black Cat – Hollis Brown
New York based rock outfit Hollis Brown (@hollisbrown) has teamed up with famed producer Adam Landry (Deer Tick, Middle Brother) for their upcoming yet-to-be-named LP. The album, recorded in Nashville this past summer, follows many of the tones found in Landry’s previous projects such as bluesy riffs and scratchy vocals. To give the record additional authenticity, though, the band used vintage analog tapes and recorded each track simultaneously in one room. This contrasts with the standard technique of recording, which layers and mixes individual instrumental and vocal tracks, creating simulated perfection but without the depth and raw character of a single performance. The first song from this album, “Gypsy Black Cat”, can be downloaded above.
Hollis Brown has also built up a great reputation for their fantastic live set, which New Yorkers can experience tonight at Mercury Lounge along with fellow The Wild Honey Pie favorites Young Buffalo.
