SLPP MP Johnston Fernando said in Parliament yesterday that a full investigation should be conducted into the death of former State Minister Sanath Nishantha.
The MP said that the wife of the former State Minister had also raised doubts whether the death of her husband was an accident or murder and had filed a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department demanding an investigation into the death.
The MP said this while participating in the vote of condolence on the demise of late State Minister Sanath Nishantha moved in Parliament yesterday.
If this death is proved to be a murder, those behind the death should be identified and brought before the law.
“He stood for the man who saved the country. That’s his humanity. He also stood up for his party. He had political courage. Those who could not tolerate that bravery were the ones who slandered him through social media. What is in the village is not what is on social media. That is why a large crowd came to pay their last respects to him. He worked for the people without boasting his position. A large number respected him because of his humanity,” the MP said.
