Review of Meccano Build and Play from Hobbycraft

When I used to think of Hobbycraft I would think it was a shop for serious arts and craft people which is not me at all!  It was only when one opened up near to us a year or so ago that I actually visited and realised that actually they sell so much more.

Not only are there arts and craft materials, there are lots of toys and craft kits for children too.

When we were asked if we would like to review an item that they stock, I chose a Meccano Build and Play buggy kit for Little Mr A.  He loves building lego but has never had a try of Meccano before so I thought it would be something new he could have a go at with Big Mr A.

Aimed at ages 5-8 the kit is fairly easy to assemble with over 70 flexible parts that click together.  There are four different buggies you can make with the pieces (one at a time) or you can use your imagination and make a unique buggy!  Together with all of the pieces you need you also get stickers in the kit to give your buggy some personality.  You also receive the tool required to screw the plastic nuts on the buggy.

Little Mr A had a great time putting this together with his Dad.  Big Mr A did have to help him quite a lot as some of the parts were a little fiddly and quite difficult to fix together.  I think younger children will need a lot of help with this kit, however, it is a nice activity to sit together and do.  I would imagine older children would be able to make the buggies without too much assistance.

Once made, the buggies are really sturdy to play with and Little Mr A has had great fun with his buggy.

The prices are really competitive at Hobbycraft and I would certainly consider using them for toys and crafts for the Little A’s in the future.
