Himalayan Beauty of Garo Hills, Meghalaya

Surrounded by tribal communities, most of the people who live here belong to Garo society.  A hill of Garo which is mostly covered by subtropical forest calls for sophistication of Meghalaya climate and eco region which is shaded by meadows of green reflects the hegemony of nature.
Although the beauties of Sohra and Shillong the Capital of Meghalaya sets between the West Khasi hills revives the glory which in turn entices tourism throughout the year. Meghalaya which is dominated by the people of Khasi community the major parts of Meghalaya is concentrated within the Khasi Hills region. The Garo Hills which occupies the large part of the heaving terrain accounts less number of people throughout the year. People residing within the zone of Garo Hills are called as the Garos and it is not only within Meghalaya you will also witness Garo settlement outside the boundaries of Meghalaya such as in Assam and Bangladesh. As per the culture they call themselves Achik-mande and in their terms Achik Mande means Hills man. A hill of Garo encompasses 5 districts and amongst this 5 zone Tura is the largest town with the large number of Population. Located somewhere down foothills of Tura peak the rich bio diversity of this area have graced this place with an abundance of Flora and Fauna. Baghmara which is the headquarters of south Garo hill district is the major part of Garo district. The place is encircled by Bangladesh and is approximately 113 km away from the site of Tura. Simsang River flows and covers the hill and tracts of the region. Simsang which meets the Samleshwari river of Bangladesh speaks the territorial importance of this place. Here you will witness Balpakram National Park, which is famous for housing elephants and clouded leopards. Baghmara Town, District of South Garo Hills We booked 4-4 sumo from Sohra to Ranikhor, which is a famous town within the shore of Khasi district. From Ranikhor another 4-4 Mahindra camper was offered by Samrakhshan Eco tours. The venture was an absolute teat as both neighbouring countries thrilled our mind with its natural boundaries. River at Ranikhor Suitable route would be from Nonstoin to Baghmara from Shillong later joining NH62 which process from Dudhnai and follows its way through Williamnagar and Baghmara. The most convenient and often used route is from Guwahati to Baghmara through NH37 which later joins the route of NH51 to Tura and further through NH62 to Baghmara. How to Get There By Air The nearest airport is Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport is also known as Guwahati International Airport and from here Baghmara is about 345 KM. Guwahati airport is the chief hub of flights to North-East India and partial to international destinations. Shillong and Tura are well linked by regular a helicopter which runs from Pawan Hans. By Rail The nearest railway station is in Guwahati and from here Baghmara is 320 km away. Guwahati station is well connected with other major cities like Kolkata, New Delhi, Bangalore, Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai, Hyderabad, Chandigarh and Mumbai. By Road Although there is only one overnight bus that operates from Guwahati to Baghmara but there are regular night bus services are obtainable to Tura. Buses operate from ISBT, Guwahati at 8:30 PM and reach Tura at 4 AM Baghmara at 9 AM respectively. The booking fare will cost you Rs 250 per person and to Baghmara it is 320 per head. From Tura one can look to get into shared services of Sumo and from Tura Baghmara is approximately 106 km. make sure the single ticket will cost you 150 and the shared services are available from 6 in the morning till 2 in the afternoon. Further there are shared taxi services which is available from Bharalumukh, Guwahati to Tura and its timings are 6 AM and 2 PM. Climate An ideal time to pay a visit here would be during the season of monsoon which falls between the month of July and September. Between November and December the region will experience warm and temperate climate.
