High Waisted and Friends Played the Open Seas [photos]

Six months ago, an idea to play a concert on a boat was hatched in the minds of the furious surf band High Waisted. They achieved that goal, and by the end of last weekend everyone in attendance left completely satisfied. Supported by three other acts, High Waisted took the stage first and banged out a stellar set while the Manhattan skyline floated by in the background. The festivities began on a high note the moment vocalist and guitarist, Jessica Louise Dye, smashed her guitar into pieces.

After a few libations and passes under the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges, Prinze George took to the stage. Two-piece bands can have difficulty impressing live, so when I say I enjoyed the technical free spirit of Prinze George, I really mean it. They got the crowd moving (though it could have been the boat) and sweaty with ease. Teen Commandments carried the spirit of Prinze George into their set and further swooned the already wild boat party. Mainland closed the night out with a ruckus set, full of power chords and catchy hooks. After their set ended, we docked and the crowd cleared, leaving the boat looking like something out of tiki horror film — except everyone miraculously survived.
