High Ends – Downtown

Jeffrey Innes a.k.a High Ends follows up his languid ”The Weight” with “Downtown”, a catchy synth heavy number, on where he takes full advantage of his baritone voice. Towards the end, the track briefly explodes into a cacophony of swirling guitars and rapturous electronics, before quickly reverting back to its jittery, swinging groove. The two tracks shows off Innes broad vocal range, going from a smooth Memory Tapes-esque croon on “The Weight” to a much deeper registry on this one. The two tracks are easily told apart, revealing their own peculiarities that makes me want to hear more. Luckily, Innes – who usually fronts Canadian rock band Yukon Blonde – will release his debut album Super Class via Dine Alone Records later this summer.
