After a lot of discussion between the Chef's recommendations and our Bengali friends, we finally decided to order Mochar chop and Fish chop. Mochar chops are basically crumb fried kebabs with banana flower and potatoes. It tasted yummy with the mustard sauce.
A mocktail to go along with it, we then asked for the main course. Luchi is puri in Bengali. Having 2 vegetarians on the table, we asked for Chanar Kalia ( Creamed Homemade fried cheese dumplings simmered in fragrant gravy with nutmeg ) . We wanted to try the poshto and the baingan bhaja too, but the quantity was well enough for 2 people and hence decided to come back to try the rest :)
The non vegetarians enjoyed the recommended "Shorshey Bata diye Bhetki Maach " with steamed rice and they had their fingers licking with the mustard flavoured fish gravy.
They also serve coastal and north indian food. The menu is quite vast, but the staff is friendly enough to explain and recommend and to ask if the customer is really happy with the dish served. We finished the meal with the Kolkatar Jumbo
Rossogolla ( Made with Nalen Gur ) and Gondhoraj Bhapa Sandesh ( Gondoraj is the king of lemons... this dessert is different and for those who have a less sweet tooth ).
Not burning too much holes in the pocket, this restaurant surely gets a thumbs up from us for serving some great quality Bengali food. Bhalobasa !!!:)
