The holidays was a three-part tale that unfolded in New York. I've always wanted to see the city sparkling in all its festive grandeur, to ice skate underneath the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center, to eat roasted chestnuts while strolling Central Park, and to stampede alongside the crowds of shoppers at Bergdorf's, Saks, and FAO Schwartz.
But then it got so so..so cold. To resist the urge to burrow in a cocoon of goose feathers all day, I perfected a morning warm-up routine while staying at Hotel Chandler, a luxury boutique hotel with its own Michelin star restaurant that's walking distance from Penn Station. Mornings started with a steamy shower that didn't end until every bottle of Molton Brown toiletries had been depleted. Then it's back to bed to primp while buried under the hotel's soft Frette bedding. After that, I'd sit on the top of the radiator in my bathrobe for a few minutes osmosing the heat. Finally, I'd get dressed, go to the lobby, drink hot tea while mustering the courage to make the leap from the hotel's cozy embrace to the cold reality of December in New York.
