Here’s What Makes LG’s Latest OLED TV Range Such a Delight to Watch.

When TV entered India, it was very social. As very few households owned a TV set, it was common for all the neighbours to gather up in one home to catch a movie. But now, the television is getting personal. Just another result of the rise of individualism, maybe. The internet connectivity is improving, and now there are a number of excellent content streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. So people are no longer restricted to watching the shows being aired on TV. Using these services, people can watch what they want to watch, when they want to watch.

As our TV viewing habits change, our televisions are changing too. While once we had bulky television sets packed in wooden cabinets to keep them safe, we now have unbelievably thin smart televisions getting flaunted on walls.

A range of such super slim television sets was recently launched by LG. The TV models in this latest range include W7 (77/65), G7 (77), E7 (65/55), C7 (65/55) and B7 (65/55) and are priced between 3.25 lacks to 30 lacks. Out of these, Signature W7 is the flagship model. It is slimmer than my finger and gets plastered on a wall like a wallpaper!

Let's see the highlights of LG 2017 OLED TV lineup:

The new LG OLED televisions ensure bright and crisp picture quality thanks to the combination of several technologies. They have self-lighting pixels that minimize the leaking of light and provide crisper contrasts. The picture quality is further enhanced by the Active HDR feature which allows LG TVs to process the picture frame by frame, offering better picture quality even if the original HDR content contains static or no metadata at all. All of LG's 2017 OLED TVs support the full palette of HDR formats. These include Dolby Vision, HDR10, HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma). They also have a new HDR Effect feature which can process standard definition content frame-by-frame to improve brightness and contrast and deliver better images.

Dolby Atmos:

To complement the incredible picture quality, LG has equipped the latest lineup of OLED TV with Dolby Atmos sound. Dolby Atmos delivers moving audio, that is, it produces sound that can be placed and moved anywhere in three-dimensional space. This is the same technology that is now being used in more and more cinema halls in India. It creates a more immersive sound experience, thereby enhancing the pleasure of watching a movie or TV show and giving a more movie hall like feel.

The LG Signature W7 model comes with a sound bar for more powerful sound output.

WebOS:

While the hardware specifications in the various models of the recently launched LG OLED TV range may vary, they all have the smartness of the webOS. Smart televisions have a way of becoming too complicated. But simplicity of use is the highlight of the webOS. I tried it myself and found it very intuitive and simple. Just pressing the Home Key on remote opens up the interface and then you just need to point the remote and select the media source you want to view. You can also easily set up hotkeys as remote shortcuts for your favourites.

The Magic Remote

The Magic Remote of these smart televisions is quite smart too. It has dedicated keys for Netflix and Amazon Prime. The remote allows your to setup hotkeys for your favourite content and has a shortcut to let you quickly browse through the recently viewed content. You can also view 360 degree images or scroll through your apps by just moving the remote. It functions much like a wireless mouse and is very easy to use. The TV responds to its motions quickly and accurately.

Features:

Being smart televisions, these OLED TVs have several smart features. Here are some that I noted:

  • While viewing, you can use the Magic Remote to zoom up on a particular area of the display and watch it in close up.
  • You can view any of your photos with 360 degree effect, moving around in them by moving the Magic Remote.
  • It has split screen capability, so you can watch two visuals simultaneously. For example, check your connected CCTV camera while watching a match.

Overall, LG's latest OLED TV range is well equipped to provide a thrilling and immersive TV viewing experience. The picture quality is bright and crisp with more natural colours and crisper contrasts. Combined with the excellent sound of Dolby Atmos, these televisions sets can deliver a movie hall like experience. And they look great too. The flagship model W7 is just 2.57 mm thick. As it has no box like thing bulging out from its back, it clings to the wall like a wallpaper, and looks amazing.

If you are looking for high quality OLED smart televisions that are easy to use, then the 2017 lineup of LG OLED TVs is worth checking out.
