There exist certain comic book characters who are occasionally aware of the fact that they are comic book characters. That’s what Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti have done to Harley Quinn in the past couple of years, and it’s long since been a part of Deadpool’s R-rated charm. One of the “Merc with a Mouth”‘s super powers, or so it seems, is to break the fourth wall, meaning he frequently does things like this:
The film’s director, Tim Miller, recently offered Empire (via ComicBookMovie) some clarification for how exactly they chose to go about this:
“Deadpool breaks the fourth wall. Wade Wilson never does. Does he know he’s a comic book character in a comic book movie? Does he know that Ryan Reynolds is playing him, and that Ryan Reynolds also played Green Lantern? It’s a big rabbit hole, and we explore it pretty deep.”
Cool. Can we just watch the Christmas trailer again?
Deadpool, fourth wall breaking and all, comes out February 12, 2016.
