New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Shelley Shepard Gray begins a new series—The Amish of Hart County—with this suspenseful tale of a young Amish woman who is forced to move to a new town to escape a threatening stalker.

After a stalker went too far, Hannah Hilty and her family had no choice but to leave the bustling Amish community where she grew up. Now she’s getting a fresh start in Hart County, Kentucky…if only she wasn’t too scared to take it. Hannah has become afraid to trust anyone—even Isaac, the friendly Amish man who lives next door. She wonders if she’ll ever return to the trusting, easy-going woman she once was.

For Isaac Troyer, the beautiful girl he teasingly called “The Recluse” confuses him like no other. When he learns of her past, he knows he’s misjudged her. However, he also understands the importance of being grateful for God’s gifts, and wonders if they will ever have anything in common. But as Hannah and Isaac slowly grow closer, they realize that there’s always more to someone than meets the eye.

Just as Hannah is finally settling into her new life, and perhaps finding a new love, more secrets are revealed and tragedy strikes. Now Hannah must decide if she should run again or dare to fight for the future she has found in Hart County.

My mother loves Amish books, and even though my passion isn’t Amish stories, I have read several awesome books written by Shelley Shepard Gray, so when I saw this book, Her Secret:The Amish of Hart County by Shelley Shepard Gray, I signed up as part of the litfuse blogger program.  Unfortunately, life happened and I was unable to post about this book until now.

The book arrived when my mother was having medical issues that left her without energy to move through life. As an avid reading family, I knew she was sick when she couldn’t even do one of her favorite things – she couldn’t read. The proof that Gloria (my mom) is feeling better is that she’s reading again and providing me with her opinions about the books she’s reading.

Here’s Gloria’s report on Her Secret:

“I find that if the book is written by Shelley Shepard Gray I will enjoy reading it and Her Secret the first book in a new series The Amish of Hart County was no exception.  An Amish love story with suspense throughout the book.  The main characters Hannah and Isaac are so real that you feel part of their families.

The story starts with Hannah Hilty and her family living in Berlin, Ohio in a big house that was comfortable and their family’s legacy.  Hannah had been friends with an English man named Trent during her rumspringa.  He had pursued her for the last two years and was now following her around and taking pictures of her.  Hannah lives her life in fear of this stalker.  She quits her job and stays home, only going out with her parents.

The family moves from Berlin, Ohio to Munfordville, Kentucky to escape this dangerous man and to give Hannah a new start.  Her brother, Ben, and sister, Jenny, blamed Hannah they had to leave their jobs and friends behind.  Jenny played a big part in this story and caused Hannah more problems to handle.  There are other underlying family secrets that made the family move.  Hannah meets her neighbor Isaac Troyer and becomes friends with him.  Trent followed the family to Kentucky and became bolder with his activities.

I picked this book up and did not put it down until I read the last page.  I am so looking forward to the next one in the series, His Guilt, that came out on July 4th, and then there will be two more to follow. I am so recommending this book to my friends!”
