Hello Again

By Lauren Smith @AlbatrossTales

It's been a while. Turns out that grad school takes up an inordinate amount of time. Who would have guessed? But, I'm done! I'm the proud new owner of a Masters of Science in Environmental Studies , with an Environmental Writing concentration. I am currently in the process of attempting to get my thesis published. My thesis consists of six creative nonfiction essays, and I plan to send them out to different literary journals. So far one down, only five more to go! I'm thrilled about my first essay being accepted, and once it goes live online I'll post a link here.

In order to reserve a few topics for future blog posts I won't give too many details about what I've been up to the last two years, but I will say that I am currently working for the University of Montana's Bird Ecology Lab doing field work, studying spotted towhees, lazuli buntings, dusky flycatchers, and orange-crowned warblers on a ranch in the Bitterroot Valley. It's pretty cool. I post a fair number of Instagram photos from my field work and other adventures, check them out on the sidebar to your right.

While I don't know exactly what the future has in store, I do know that this albatross plans to stay in Missoula for a while longer yet. These mountains feel like home.
