Hedgehogs and Frozen Soap Bubbles

By Maliasa

The unpredictable winter weather is causing all sorts of problems for the hedgehogs in the UK. The wet and rainy weather in December has been followed by some colder snaps. Hedgehogs usually hibernate between mid-November and mid-March, but I neighbour I spoke to had seen a hedgehog the other day.

Finding food is not easy when it is very wet and some underweight hedgehogs may decide to hibernate when its gets colder. To help these wonderful creatures you can give them foods like minced meat, tinned dog or cat food (chicken or rabbit flavour, not fish-based. They also like crushed cat biscuits, chopped boiled eggs, peanuts, sunflower hearts, chopped apple, digestive biscuits, and dried meal worms, You can also buy specialist hedgehog food from wild bird food suppliers - Wildlife World Hedgehog Care Pack. Put the food out with a bowl of water. Please remember that they should never be given cows milk.

We have only had a couple of cold nights here so we got very excited when we so this video. The inspiration for this video was a conversation with a 3-year old girl and her dad while they were getting dressed to go out. "Daddy, I don't want to put this . . ."

Enjoy!
