Hearty, Fresh, and Local Meal at Gather Restaurant

Ok everyone, get ready for some food porn.

A few months ago, a couple friends, my hubby and I had the pleasure of visiting Gather Restaurant in Berkeley. Gather is a place where you can find seasonal food, locally sourced and organic, that appeals to vegetarians and omnivores alike. It was a true dining experience, and I loved the ambience of the restaurant: rustic, cozy, but still elegant.

Their food is delicious, and it’s also absolutely beautiful (hence the food porn comment).

Everything is presented in a unique and artful manner: you can tell that they take care to make sure their food looks as good as it tastes.

Here’s what was on our menu:

To Start – the Vegan “Charcuterie”

It included:

  • Jerusalem Artichoke, Tonda Padana smoked tomato puree, tahini, mushrooms
  • Bulls Blood beet tartare, olives, fennel, dill
  • Rutabaga, Sweet Potato, Parsnips, Horseradish leaf salsa verde
  • Turnips, Smoked persimmon and carrot
The flavors were inventive, every item was unique and something I had never had before. The beet tartare was so cool! And of course, it was beautiful.Moving on to our main courses, we ordered the Roasted Delicata Squash with cannellini beans, rapini, pumpkin puree, baby artichokesThis honestly couldn’t be any more artistic. I loved the stuffing of the squash and the creaminess of the pumpkin puree just tied it all together. We also had to try their pizzas – I mean the husband was with me, so how couldn’t we order his favorite food in the world? The Roasted Broccoli Pizza came first, followed by their Fontinella pizza (pretty much like a four cheese or margherita). ..Is it weird to say that the crust was my favorite part? I can’t help it, I’m a sucker for freshly baked bread. Of course, the pizzas themselves were delicious – but the crust!! So good.We ordered a small dessert, because we were so stuffed. Ice cream with a bit of citrus – which somehow tasted just like Fruit Loops (random I know), and was just a great end to our meal.
