What is Heart?

Heart is a muscular organ that helps in pumping the blood through circulatory system inside the different parts of our body, thereby passes the blood to different parts of the body cells which helps the entire system of the body to function smoothly.

About 72% of the people are facing heart disease and this has become a universal problem which has been increasing day by day due to the lack of required nutrition intake, stress, environmental pollution and anger. Let us know about the few facts regarding the heart disease and how to reduce the heart disease risk factors.

What is the function of heart?

The human heart pumps the blood throughout the body with the help of the circulatory system to supply oxygen and nutrients to the tissues and remove the carbon dioxide and other wastes.

What are the causes of heart disease?

According to the research, heart disease starts with the damage to the lining and the inner layers of the arteries of the heart. The contributing factors to this damage include: high amount of certain fats and cholesterol in the blood, smoking including, secondhand smoke, high blood pressure, blood vessel inflammation and high amounts of sugar in the blood due to the insulin resistance or diabetes.

The plaque build up may start where the arteries are damaged. Over a period of time, it can harden or rupture. The hardened plaque narrows the coronary arteries and reduces the flow of oxygen-rich blood to the heart, which can cause discomfort or chest pain called as angina. If the plaque ruptures, then the blood cell fragments called as platelets stick to the side of the injury and they may clump together to form blood clots. These clots can further narrow the coronary arteries and worsen the angina. If the clot becomes large enough to completely block the coronary artery then it may cause a heart attack.

Additionally, low estrogen levels before or after menopause also play a vital role in causing coronary MVD (microvascular disease) that affects the tiny arteries of the heart.
