Healthy Home Renovation – Red Knobs and a Steal of a Deal

By Lindsayleighbentley @lindsayLbentley

I’d like to introduce you to the newest member of our family.  We haven’t named her yet, but feel free to throw out some ideas:

Ok, so I’m totally kinda kidding.

I love to cook and spend the majority of my time during the day in the kitchen (I prepare three meals a day, make my own yogurt, butter, kombucha, broth, granola, sauerkraut, deodorant, toothpaste…) and we plan on hosting a ton of parties, houseguests, and family holidays in the future.  So, my husband and I hoped to find the stove/oven/range of my dreams.  Which meant finding one either used (not ideal in this situation), clearance, or a floor model.  We went to one of those fancy showrooms where kitchen faucets cost $1200 and bathtubs are $8k, and the employees looked at us, with our nursing baby, and noisy toddler, and inquisitive 4 year old as though they wished we would leave and never return.

But I don’t even care because we found it!

Oh My.  You guys.  I didn’t think I would be able to get those coveted red knobs.  Henry overheard us talking about it and thought that we were buying an actual wolf as a pet for the new house – love him.  If you love all things kitchen you know that a Wolf range is the Holy Grail of kitchen appliances.

It was a floor model that had never been used and is a discontinued model.  It was perfect, even down to the built-in steel griddle.  We took a few days to think it over, all the while mildly panicking that someone would buy it before we did.  Even though it was waaay discounted, it is still our biggest splurge to date.

Which is why we were SUPER pumped to also find a vent (who would have known that a hood vent would be SO EXPENSIVE?!  I mean, it’s a fan, right?  Anyhoo, we found this fantastic Ventahood that retails for $5600, on sale for $3800 at some places, brand new for only $750!!  What?!  Yep.  Because it has a tiny scratch on it.

Um.  Yes please.

We are doing our whole renovation this way.  We have never bought new, full-price things before this reno, so finding deals like this just makes sense.  And we really value high quality, well-made products.  Plus, I kinda get a rush from it.  Now, I know what those coupon ladies are talking out about!

I can’t wait to tell you about the amazing deal we found on hardwood flooring and the eco-friendly, zero VOC (non-polyurethane) option we found for staining and finishing it!  We are also doing ship-lap siding in quite a bit of the home which we are purchasing from a Mennonite community close by.  I love supporting local businesses and individuals as much as possible!!

In unrelated news, I got to go out with my husband last night to a work Christmas party.  They are some of the kindest, most hilarious people I’ve met.  It makes him being gone so much easier knowing he’s spending time with such a wonderful group.

live well. be well.
