Healthy and Hygienic Street Food at Chaat Chowk

By Rohit Dassani

Chaat Chowk as the name suggests serves Indian street food in the most hygienic and modern way possible. The place is located in Galleria Market, Gurgaon on the 1st floor and opened only a few months back. The outlet comes from the same group as Ambarsari Chowk famous for its Punjabi Food. The place has now become on iconic street food shop in and around. Chaat Chowk was beaming with people in large numbers, hungry to try these chats. The place has an open kitchen and glass windows where people can peep in to see what was being cooked and how.

The lack of seating arrangement might be a disappointment for a few, but street food is best tried while standing and craving for it. Orders are taken one by one and people are called out once the order is ready. A typical turnaround time is between 5-10minutes. Here is some of the food we tried:-

Nimbu Soda Masaledar – Masaladar Nimbu Soda, a bit spicy but the masala does the trick. 7.5/10

Dahi Puchka Chaat – The Puchka’s are stuffed with potato’s and chole then topped with fresh sweet yogurt and chutneys. The puffed papri is then topped with Sev and Pomegranate seeds. This chat needs to be gulped in just a bite. Great in taste and a true street food experience. 9/10

Matar Kulcha – Delhi NCR is famous for its Matar Kulcha and so it is here as well. The soft Kulcha’s are baked in olive oil rather than butter. The Matar gravy was delicious. The dish is served with onions, green chutney and a slice of lemon. 8/10

Aloo Chaat – Another Delhi’s favorite snack, here the potato’s fried in Olive Oil. Quite heavy on the stomach. 7/10

Puchka – The Puchka counter is on the front and has 2 different puchka – one made from sooji and the other from Atta. The Puchka’s are served quite hygienically as the server wear’s plastic gloves. 7.5/10

Pao Bhaji – The Bhaji here is different than typical North Indian styled gravy. And the Pao are baked in Olive Oil. Great combination and a must try! 8/10

Dahi Papri Chaat – Papri Chat with fresh sweet Dahi with 2 chutneys – Green Coriander and Red Tamarind. The Chaat is then sprinkled with fresh onions, coriander, potato, Chole and sev. Amazing in taste because the Papri were crispy. 8/10

Aloo Tikki Chole Ke Saath – Crispy Aloo Tikki served with Kabuli Chole Gravy and topped with chutneys. The Aloo Tikki are also fried in Olive Oil to keep it healthy. 7.5/10

All the items on the menu carry a great value for money. The service here was without any tussle. The important thing to note is the waiting period, if we remove it, the craving of Street Food would be over. Let the wait begin…
