He’s More a Godzilla Than a Meatball. LOL

If you think your cat is overweight, you haven’t met Meatball.

Steve Stout reports for WDBJ7.com, Feb. 1, 2014, that Meatball, a 36-pound cat was surrendered to the Maricopa County Animal Care and Control (MCACC)’s East Valley Animal Care Center in Mesa, Ariz.

Morbidly obese Meatball had been shuffled from home to home before being brought to the shelter.

Melissa Gable of the MCACC said Meatball is “the biggest cat I have ever seen.” The shelter took in a 28-pound cat in August, but the largest cat on record was from Cairns, Queensland, which weighed in at 46 pounds, according to Guinness World Records.

Meatball is so large, he can’t comfortably fit in the shelter’s regular cat kennels and is living in one of the administrative offices at MCACC’s West Valley Animal Care Center in Phoenix. But Meatball can walk and is very affectionate Meatball. The shelter’s veterinary team said it is watching his health closely.

Meanwhile, MCACC is trying to find a spot with a rescue organization that specializes in overweight cats because of Meatball’s risk for severe health issues and the need for constant monitoring and a special prescribed diet.

Meatball is not available for general adoption.
