Award-winning artist Jim Kay illustrates year two of Harry's adventures at Hogwarts, in the same beautiful, gift-ready format as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

The Dursleys were so mean and hideous that summer that all Harry Potter wanted was to get back to the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. But just as he's packing his bags, Harry receives a warning from a strange, impish creature named Dobby who says that if Harry Potter returns to Hogwarts, disaster will strike

And strike it does. For in Harry's second year at Hogwarts, fresh torments and horrors arise, including an outrageously stuck-up new professor, Gilderoy Lockhart, a spirit named Moaning Myrtle who haunts the girls' bathroom, and the unwanted attentions of Ron Weasley's younger sister, Ginny.

But each of these seem minor annoyances when the real trouble begins, and someone - or something - starts turning Hogwarts students to stone. Could it be Draco Malfoy, a more poisonous rival than ever? Could it possibly be Hagrid, whose mysterious past is finally told? Or could it be the one everyone at Hogwarts most suspects . . . Harry Potter himself?

EXTRACT

Not for the first time, an argument had broken out over breakfast at number four, Privet Drive. Mr. Vernon Dursley had been woken in the early hours of the morning by a loud, hooting noise from his nephew Harry's room.

WHAT I THOUGHT

I'm a huge fan of the Harry Potter Books. I've read Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets eight or nine times. One word about the illustrations in this version, they are fantastic and bring the character and the world to vivid life. They look exactly as they should. What struck me, reading this again was that this is a much darker book than Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and the books get darker each time. This is a great book. The characters are a lot more developed than they are in the first book. Events that will have a big impact later in the series are already set in motion. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is a fantastic book, the book where much of what I love about Harry Potter starts to take form.
