I've read this book at least ten times including the illustrated edition hardback and love it more each read through. The Philosopher's Stone is tame compared to what goes on in The Chamber of Secrets and subsequent books. Fans will know that things gradually get darker and darker in Harry's world. This book deals with the harm (intentional) caused when Voldemort's old school book ends up in innocent hands. Harry hears voices and discovers he has an unusual wizard skill linked to dark wizards. And there's a giant snake as well. And who doesn't love Dobby, the downtrodden house elf who works for the nasty Malfoy's. And the Wesley's have a flying car. Did I mention the giant snake and the flying car?
