HAPPY NEW MONTH: Farewell, March 2013

Posted on the 01 April 2013 by Limette @Limette9

It's LAMMY time! Being a little knocked out from post-Oscar-depression and birthday hangovers and those 18 days of constant blogging, I kind of... didn't notice the whole submission stage and all that. Turns out that I do have some awfully kind followers who submitted me for three categories - thank you so much for that, guys! For more information on voting for me and all the other great blogs that have been submitted (and that I have been really bad at visiting lately), click here.
What else has been up last month? Well, this sentence is getting a little old but I sadly haven't been able to watch a lot of movies. This is probably the first time in my life that I have to prolong the stack of DVDs that I borrowed from the library... some time in the beginning of March. Shame on me. But better times are in sight (movie-wise I mean, don't know about my personal life which has become more social but thus also more complicated... oh well). Me and two fellow awesome female movie bloggers are on a secret mission currently and we hope to share the results of it any time soon... as soon as we get started that is. Anyway, it's going to be legendary. I hope.
I also paid a visit to Prague, great city although I don't get why anyone would invent the Czech language... it's just so uggly to me (sorry if there's anybody Czech around here, this is just my personal opinion). Actually I wanted to watch some Czech movies before or after going, but I think that'll have to wait. At least I'm not occupied by watching Doctor Who AKA asdfghjklthemostawesomeshowintheworldeverhljökäzuiopü anymore. Except on Saturdays of course, as I found a really good BBC1 stream which is going to save my weekends from now on. Okay, enough of that... here's what I watched last month and some other random stuff.
WATCHED FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME

Bridesmaids (2011) I know this movie caused a lot of trouble in the blogosphere/ filmbuffosphere, because there were those who absolutely loved it and those who despised it. I thought it was enjoyable. Very entertaining in a light-hearted way, neither too much slapstick nor too subtle. And I adore Kirsten Wig.RATING: 7.9
Indigènes (2006) One of my recent tasks is to finally get my ass up and watch some movies from my IMDB watchlist. I mean, what's it there for? Not just for its one sake, right? What's the sense in searching for movies to watch in odd places when you have 80 movies just waiting to finally be watched, just one click away? Anyway, this was the first I tried. Don't remember why it was on there, but it wasn't that great. Interesting perhaps, but to be honest I'm getting tired of war movies, especially after the Kubrick trip earlier this year.RATING: 7.1

Ikiru (1952) Another movie from the watchlist. It's supposed to be Akira Kurosawa's greatest by far, just as Seven Samurai - and as with the latter, I was quite disappointed. Call me ignorant but I just thought it was super boring. All I could think of during the famous swing scene was Matt Smith on a swing. Nevertheless I was touched at some point in the movie.RATING: 7.0
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011) So I finally got around to watch this one! And yeah, it was mediocre. Plus, how the hell did Captain Jack's hair go from piratey-brown to all long and blond-ish?RATING: 7.0

Secrets & Lies (1996) I have a confession to make: I'm turning into a bit of an anglophile at the moment. The sound of British accent is like candy to me. And you know what's even better? British slang, like the most dirty and ghetto slang you can get. Luckily, I found it in this movie which makes it one of the better movies I saw this month. Okay, so it was pretty good even if you don't count the slang.RATING: 7.9
The Big Lebowski (1998) Perhaps I was thinking too much about Matt Smith when I watched this, or about my social life, or perhaps I was still drunk from the night before - but I didn't find The Big Lebowski all too awesome. It was a decent movie, funny and entertaining, and you all know how I love me some quirkiness, but yeah. Perhaps there were too few women in it (although I loved Julianne Moore as the provocative feminist artist). RATING: 7.8
The Matrix (1999) This was by far the most spectacular new-to-me movie I watched in March. I loved it to bits to understate things. Overly intelligent, suspenseful, pop culture and epic I am so happy I watched it - finally (my most-used word in this post I'm guessing). RATING: 9.5
RE-WATCHED WITH THE PURPOSE OF INTENSE EXAMINATION

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) As some of you know, my sister is on a definite Harry Potter trip at the time. And it's all my fault. Anyway, she's reading the books right now and watches each movie after finishing each book. So I thought I'd join her on this one just for the sake of seeing Barty Crouch Junior from a whole new perspective.RATING: 8.7
Silver Linings Playbook (2012) It's not as good in German as in its original language, mainly because the person dubbing Jennifer Lawrence is completely emotionless, but what the hell, I still love it. "I'm going to excuse on behalf of Ernest Hemingway, because that's clearly who's to blame here".RATING: 8.0
The Hunger Games (2012) Yeah, my sister's on a Hunger Games trip too. And it's my fault too.RATING: 8.0

The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012) Oh God - FINALLY the DVD came out. Man, that felt like ages.RATING: 9.8
Türkisch für Anfänger (2012) Funnier on second view.RATING: 7.9
---Amount of feature films watched: 12  (February +/– 0)Average rating: 8.1 (February +0.9)Worst movie of the month: Ikiru/ Pirates of the Caribbean 4Best movie of the month: The Perks of Being a WallflowerSERIES

Doctor Who, Season 5 + 6 + 7.1 (2010 - 2012)What can I say. Anyone following me on twitter or tumblr knows about my slight obsession about these series. And, surprisingly, Matt Smith. I wasn't sure whether I would like him, mainly because I seldom like any new things about stuff I already love. Anyway, I'm planning to write a big fat Doctor Who post some time soon, so I think I'll save my mojo for that. Until then, join me on twitter Saturdays about one hour later than 18.15 UTC. VERDICT: This is more than just a regular serial addiction. This is true love.

BOOKS

Rain Man (Leonore Fleischer)Fun and easy to read, but not that catching to be honest. I'm curious for the movie!*** OUT OF 5

Faust (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe)I hate just about everything about this play. Expecting something close to Die Leiden des jungen Werther, and with close to I mean just as beautiful, relatable and compelling, I was more than disappointed. I was frustrated, deeply and truly frustrated. So part 1 was okay, like, it was readable and understandable. But part 2? It was just fucked up! Just when I thought I had finally understood what was going on, some choir of ants popped out of nowhere. It seemed as if Goethe just knew everybody adored him and he could get away with any piece of shit - excuse my language.* OUT OF 5
Metro Girl (Janet Evanovich)Oh yes, this was just what I needed after Faust. See, it's not always about the language. This may not be a poetic piece of prose but it is FUN.**** OUT OF 5
MUSICNothing special, also because I lost my iPod Nano on my holiday in Prague. Sure, I could put music on my iPod Touch but that takes so much time. And I need some new earphones.Nevertheless, I've been listening to a few podcasts lately, such as The Matineecast, As You Watch and Cinema in Noir. Check them out.
