Exactly fifty years ago, British inventor, entrepreneur and eccentric Edward Craven Walker created the first ever "Lava Lamp"! We are now celebrating this light fixtures golden anniversary. And, I am thrilled to have this opportunity to review and share my experiences with you.
Edward called his original creation "Astro Lamp", and it was a glass vessel filled with clear liquid with blobs of colored wax floating inside. Later, this evolved to the retro lava lamps of the 60's and 70's. There was a period when these lamps became an iconic accessory in apartments, dorms, pubs, and so on. Then, these faded away and its modern version is back in style now!
I picked a combination of yellow wax/blue liquid to review. It is mesmerizing. It has changed the whole ambiance of the room. I can watch this for hours without getting a bit bored.I really can't wait for the upcoming holiday season. This lamp is going impress my guests, get a lot of attention and set the mood to party.
Lava's take some time to start floating, and the base will eventually get warm. It is advised not to shake or move them when they are turned on and best to keep them away from direct sunlight. And, they can be operated only up to 8 to 10 hours at a time. Other than replacing the bulb, nothing else should be dismantled! Assembly is a snap, and it arrived beautifully packaged.
