Plot: Helen signs up for a wilderness survival course, a year after getting divorced. She discovers through this experience that sometimes, you have to get really lost in order to find yourself.

Story: Happiness for Beginners starts when Helen (Kemper) goes through a divorce and decides she needs a break from life. Helen signs up for a wilderness course where she reluctantly finds herself joined by her brother’s best friend Jake (Grimes). The pair are guided by Beckett (Cook) and joined by others who want to find their place in the wilderness.
As the group head off into the wilderness, they all get to address their problems. Each member of the team has something they need to learn, and the trip gives them this. However, it is Helen that has the most to learn about herself, to understand the importance of her life.

However, things get complicated when her brother’s best friend joins them. Meanwhile, the rest of the group have their own challenges, showing taking a step back can make life more enjoyable.
This is an enjoyable movie that is filled with the idea that life can change in the right way. It proves that age can only be a number, even if you have been through difficult times. This also gets to show us how important taking a step away from everything to refresh can be, leading to unexpected outcomes.
The locations create some beautiful sequences of the open natural world in America. We get wonderful performances from everyone involved in the movie. The whole group gets a moment to shine on the journey, leaving us with a smile on our faces because of the journey they have been through.
