Had Rs.3.98 Mn Cash, Said Heroin Found Floating

Colombo South Crimes Prevention Unit, on a tip-off received, arrested a suspect along with 104 grams and 789 milligrams of heroin worth Rs.3.5 million and Rs.3.98 million in cash in his possession at Kirulapone yesterday.

The arrested is a 40-year-old fisherman from the Rekawa area.

The suspect has told the police that a group of six fishermen including him had found 25 kilograms of heroin floating in the deep sea about a month ago and it was shared among them equally.

The 104 grams and 789 milligrams that was arrested yesterday was the last of his share, he had told police. Police had arrested the suspect while he was going to see his wife, who lives in the Poorvaramaya area.

The suspect was produced before the Maligakanda No. 02 Magistrate Court by the Kirulapone Police and police said that they expected to obtain a seven-day Detention Order against him.
