Gun Control, Chicago Style: 2 Dead, 8 Wounded in Separate Shootings

By Eowyn @DrEowyn

There’s a common theme here….”heard a shot and felt pain”. Obviously a regular occurrence in gun-controlled Chicago.

Chicago Tribune: At least two men have been fatally wounded and another eight injured Saturday afternoon and evening in separate shootings on the city’s South and West sides police said.

The most recent homicide happened at the intersection of Adams Street and Kilbourn Avenue in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the city’s West Side. A man, 26, was driving a black car when someone shot him in the head. He hit a tree and later died, police said.

One fatal shooting happened about 4:50 p.m. in the 5300 block of South Union Avenue in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago police spokesman, correcting earlier information that the shooting took place a block south. Police were called to the area after a report of shots fired, and found a man unresponsive, with gunshot wounds to the neck and abdomen, Sweeney said. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital and pronounced dead, he said.

About 2:05 a.m., a 21-year-old man on the sidewalk was shot in the chest and arms, police said. He was in the 200 block of North Saint Louis Avenue in the East Garfield Park neighborhood.

A 37-year-old man walked into Saint Bernard Hospital and Healthcare Center with a gunshot wound to his upper left arm about 12:40 a.m., police said. He had been shot in the 6000 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue in the West Woodlawn neighborhood. He was transferred to Stroger Hospital, police said. He was on a sidewalk when he heard shots and felt pain.

Someone shot a 59-year-old man in the 9100 block of South Harvard Avenue about 11 p.m., police said. The man was on a porch when someone fired toward the porch. He was shot in the lower right side of his back and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition, police said.

A 28-year-old man suffered gunshot wounds to his legs in the 900 block of North Leclaire Avenue about 10:15 p.m., police said. He was on the sidewalk when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in stable condition.

About 9:05 p.m., someone shot a 17-year-old boy in the leg after a fight in the 200 block of East 47th Street in the Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side. He was fleeing the fight when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. He was taken by ambulance from the 4800 block of South King Drive, where authorities found him, to University of Chicago Hospital in good condition.

Someone shot a 26-year-old woman in the back twice in the 10900 block of South Mackinaw Avenue in the East Side neighborhood on the city’s Far South Side about 9 p.m. She was with a man when two males approached, stepped out of a white sedan and opened fire, police said. He drove her to Franciscan Saint Margaret hospital in Hammond, where she’s in stable condition, police said.

Later Saturday, a 40-year-old man suffered gunshot wounds to a hand and both legs in a shooting about 6:15 p.m. in the 11700 block of South Sangamon Avenue, Sweeney said. The man’s condition was stabilized at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. The man was on the street when someone came up to him and fired shots, then fled, Sweeney said.

Earlier a 27-year-old man was wounded in a drive-by shooting in the city’s Woodlawn neighborhood. That shooting happened about 3:30 p.m. in the 6500 block of South Maryland Avenue, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago police spokesman. Preliminary information stated the man was standing outside when a vehicle pulled up, and someone inside fired shots. The victim suffered a wound to the leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital where his condition was stabilized, Sweeney said. No one was in custody for any of the attacks and police were investigating.
