Guatemala // Lake Atitlan

By Darlenedame

so i'm really behind on updating my blog but we went to central america back in may, which actually feels like forever ago. our purpose of the trip was for some service projects in el salvador with proof, but knowing tanner, we were able to make a quick (very quick) vacation stop in guatemala. we flew out of boise and had a layover in san francisco, and then an over night layover in houston. we stayed in the airport because it didn't make sense getting a hotel. i think we all begged to differ after trying to sleep in an airport.. it's kind of the worst.
we arrived in guatemala in the early afternoon and took a private bus to our air bnb rental. our rental was amazing. it was steps from the lake with beautiful grounds. the house was actually very modern and slept us all comfortably. we didn't arrive until that evening and had a little time to visit the lake, walk around our tiny town, and grab some dinner. nothing beats central american food! i could eat it every day. the next morning we took a boat over to the main town and walked around for a bit, took a dip in the lake, ate some lunch, and then got back on the road to antigua. we didn't quite get 24 hours in lake atitlan but i'm glad we got to see it and enjoy it a little bit. it's a gorgeous lake and i loved seeing the authentic culture.
