This Grass Valley-based Cal Fire Turbo Tracker departs the 2023 Truckee Tahoe Airshow.  Among the Cal Fire air assets are 23 Grumman S-2T 1,200 gallon air-tankers, such as this one.  At the turn of the century, these upgraded turbine powered S-2 aircraft replaced older S-2A Trackers that had been in service since 1974.  First flown in 1952, the S-2 was in naval service for nations worldwide, only Argentina and Brazil still operate them.  Cal Fire has aircraft stationed at 13 air attack and ten helitack bases located statewide.
