Greek September Sunshine

By Xfranx

I love a September sunshine break – it’s the best time to go away – quieter, often cheaper and still gloriously warm in Europe. Plus, there’s something about taking a break just as everyone else is getting into the ‘back to school’ thing…admittedly this usually does cause me some work related stress but if you plan ahead and work hard during the summer, your September break can be (almost) stress free.

This year we returned to the Greek Island of Crete, to the Blue Palace Hotel and it was perfect. This hotel is situated walking distance the little fishing village of Plaka, with a few nice restaurants and about a half an hour walk (or short taxi) from the slightly bigger town of Elounda.

Daily dips in the Mediterranean were just what I needed, along with reading, relaxing and dining on Greek salads galore as well as lots of fresh fish.

We were lucky enough to have a suite with a little plunge pool which was perfect for cooling off and taking in the views of Spinalonga.

The hotel’s Shisha menu offered a fantastic way to unwind with a cocktail after dinner too.

Plus, who doesn’t love the chance to break out their summer wardrobe in September? All my sun hats, maxi dresses and colourful prints were worn!

I have so much love for Greece and especially Crete and this hotel. I’ll be back (but probably not until next September!)
