Ordnance Survey are a group of people in England who’s job it is to make maps of the country. Today they’ve revealed their coolest map yet: the entire Great Britain built in Minecraft!
This is Southampton created in Minecraft, a city on the south coast of England
All 86,000 miles of Great Britain – so that’s England, Scotland and Wales – has been built out of Minecraft bricks. That’s 22 billion blocks!
“We think we may have created the largest Minecraft world ever built based on real-world data,” said Ordnance Survey Innovation Lab Manager Graham Dunlop.

Because Minecraft can’t handle a project as massive as a whole country, Great Britain had to be scaled down a little bit. So each Minecraft block represents 50 square meters in the real world. 2,500 meters tall is the tallest the world goes, which is 128 blocks high. The highest landmark is Ben Nevis, which is the tallest mountain in Great Britain.
If you’d like to explore Ordnance Survey’s Great Britain Minecraft map, you can download it here. It’s a massive 3.6GB, so it may take a little while to download. It’ll be worth it, though!
