Much like I did this summer by watching The Royal hotel a second time, and clearing that film of its initial Unwatchable grade, I noticed Netflix uploaded the audio description to Gran Turismo at some point. Mind you, I reviewed that film about a month after it had been on the service, so the delay is still unacceptable for Sony and Netflix. However, Neill Blomkamp and the cast and crew are taken off the Unwatchable list.
The first time through, I could tell there was a hint of a film here that I would enjoy if it just had audio description. Actually being able to understand the racing sequences, actually brings the whole film together. I’m generally a fan of Neill Blomkamp as a director, and I really figured he has a unique perspective worth a second watch. I was right. It’s not even so much a video game adaptation, as it is a gamers wet dream, the ability to actually prove the skills they develop in game have a real world application. Could you imagine if someone who played Madden had the opportunity to call plays for a professional team, even just for one game, to prove how much they had learned over the oodles of years of Madden?
So, a rather short review, but enough to acknowledge the change in accessibility, and reward Gran Turismo with a real grade.
New Graade: B+
