Gran Ferro 2012

Posted on the 21 May 2012 by Wideopenmoto

My Gran Ferro day began at 4am Sunday morning with a magnitude 6 earthquake 20km away which killed four people and scared the living shit outta my girlfriend. The setting for the Gran Ferro was quite close to the epicentre itself, but despite this and the non-stop rain it happened.
Numbers were down but the enthusiasm was in no way dampened or shaken (puns intended).
The Gran Ferro is basically an annual classic and custom bike show in the town of San Giovanni in Persecito, near Bologna. Its grown steadily over the years and is a popular fixture in the action-packed moto calendar of the Emilia Romagna region.
Here are a few pics I manges to snap while dodging showers. You'll find a much larger selelection over on the WideOpenMoto facebook.

Usually surrounded by riders escaping the heat, this year the sculpture was all alone. Poor lil guy.

Row of contenders for various Gran Ferro prizes.
Beeza Rocket III. Gorgeous bike which will be featured here in the next couple of days. Keep an eye out for it.
