For a tree-care company, up-to-date mapping information is essential. That’s why Tree Tech Inc. values the mapping insight that the Fleetmatics GPS vehicle tracking solution provides. The company’s secretary is able to monitor the fleet at any time from a 42-inch flat-screen monitor in the office, explains Tree Tech President Andy Felix. “When storms hit, she can also see where tree damage is widespread so we can see where the crews are and who can respond the quickest,” he says. “That’s invaluable.”

The Fleetmatics solution  provides Felix with vehicle speed information, idling times, and helpful routing information. The company has been able to manage fuel usage more efficiently with the help of Fleetmatics. Felix says Tree Tech has already been able to save approximately $2,000 a month in gas.

Tree Tech runs an impressive fleet of 57 vehicles. When Felix first looked into implementing fleet tracking in 2008, he was hesitant because he didn’t want to appear too “big brother” to his staff. However, the large fleet was serving all of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. It was becoming too challenging without a GPS vehicle tracking solution. The company was already using a tracking system, but the tracking was being done through mobile phones. Felix knew he needed a more comprehensive solution for the fleet. “It didn’t give us the information we needed. We do a lot of idling because many of our trucks use PTOs for cranes, bucket trucks, log trucks,” he recalls. ”We couldn’t get information on the idling time or any of the speed limit information.”
