Google Puts Tabs on My Gmail

Google has began rolling out its categorized tabs on its Gmail service few weeks ago by installments depending on your location. I just have it today with initially three tabs appearing on my inbox: Primary, Social, and Promotions. The other two tabs for Updates and Forums have to be activated by just selecting it in the menu when you shall be asked to upgrade your inbox with the tabs.

PRIMARY

Person-to-person conversation and messages that don’t appear in other tabs

As Google says, it’s “person-to-person” messages. I have noticed that the messages are from individuals’ personal email addresses and few official business email addresses that don’t appear in other tabs.

SOCIAL

Messages from social networks, media-sharing sites, online dating services, and other social websites

The reason why i used Gmail as my secondary personal email next to Yahoo is because of the clutter of its previous design. To make things worst, all the notifications from my social accounts are dumped into my Gmail inbox. Now, with the “social” tab i can easily skip from all of the notifications of my Facebook and other social network accounts.

PROMOTIONS

Deals, offers, and other marketing emails

This is the third most important tab in the Gmail update hence all emails relevant to your product promotion subscriptions are dropped here. The products notices are not to be ignored hence they’re all important to you especially when you want to avail discounts on certain purchases. With the “promotions” tab, it’s easy to peep through some promotional items without getting tired of scrolling your inbox messages.

UPDATES

Personal, auto-generated updates including confirmations, receipts,. bills and statements

As i’ve noticed, the messages are mostly computer-generated electronic mails for your other online subscriptions. Google says it also includes billing statements and receipts. Unfortunately, as i’ve said, Gmail is my secondary email service and all my billing statements are in my YahooMail.

FORUMS

Messages from online groups, discussion boards, and mailing lists

The tab is swamped with notices from discussion boards i have subscribed. Most of the messages are less important to me. So, it’s good that these are segregated from the rest of my emails.

In conclusion, the latest innovation of Google is working on my Gmail. I now love Gmail.
