Good Morning Sweetie!

Happy 2012!
2011 was a big year of change for me, with the start many exciting possibilities, some yet to unfold.  Among them is surely this blog, and my plans for my writing and vegan work in general.
I must admit that deciding what to write about and share with you is not always easy.  Let's face it ~ some days, and surely some meals, are just not so interesting.
During the week between Christmas and New Year's Eve however, I spent the time in Washington, DC with my son.  We spent quality time with my aunt and some friends, and took advantage of all that our capital has to offer.  You should definitely expect to get some dining-out suggestions in the coming weeks should you be preparing for a visit to one of my favorite cities!
Well, one of the tourist attractions I wasn't willing to pass up was Georgetown Cupcakes.  You may know about it from the show DC Cupcakes on TLC.  My son and I stood in line for over 20 minutes for these gorgeous confections (thankfully the weather was nice) that came in tremendous variety.  They have particular flavors on each day, some specials for each day, and then some seasonal ones.  Aren't the snowflakes and peppermint swirl beautiful? And how cute is that gingerbread man?  If you're a vegan, all you can do is take in the smell and admire these from afar, but the people who ate them really enjoyed them.  I was told a vegan cupcake was in the works...we'll see!

While I was on that long line, snapping photos to post on facebook to share the lunacy, a friend who lives in DC emailed me to tell me that Hello Cupcake in Dupont Circle has vegan selections every day.  Guess where we went the next morning...
I called that afternoon and asked them to reserve me two vegan carrot cake cupcakes with a faux cream cheese frosting, and on Friday I picked up two banana cupcakes, one topped with a peanut butter frosting and the other with vanilla.  They were outrageous!  So incredibly delicious, moist, and flavorful and, unlike too many vegan frostings, no aftertaste.  Just sweet, decadent goodness.  In fact, my husband thought they were even better than the others!
As dinner ended last night and we went back to a friend's house to ring in the new year with our kids, I was thrilled to come home to the last carrot cake cupcake...I think it bodes well for all the good things yet to come!
Wishing you a happy, healthy and "sweet" new year,
Yonni
