Having a well-trained dog (perhaps like Jumpy) makes looking after him easier and much more pleasurable, and he is likely to get a much better reaction from people throughout his life. So you owe it to your pet to train him correctly and well.

Good Manners Start with Dog Owners

Some people who own untrained, and therefore badly behaved, dogs can’t understand why their circle of friends decreases and no one seems to want to visit them any more. They fail to appreciate that most visitors don’t like being jumped all over and covered with hair and slobber.

Having a dog that will obey the basics of obedience-training – he walks to heel, obeys recall and goes and lies down out of the way on command – and makes for an easier and more pleasurable life for all concerned. If you’re continually telling the dog off for doing something you consider to be inappropriate, but not teaching him clearly and kindly the right way to go about things, this leads to a very stressful existence for you both – which is unpleasant and not good for either party’s health.

Successful relationships are based on positive two-way communication and respect. IF you want your dog to be well behaved with impeccable manners then you will find that understanding how he thinks will help you attain this goal and therefore be able to establish a more mutually rewarding partnership with him.
