Akeylah is an accomplished young woman who will be pursuing dual bachelor degrees in the field of Biomedical Engineering.
Akeylah's description of herself: "I have been a student within the International Baccalaureate program for four years. I graduated from my high school with a weighted GPA of 4.3 leaving me within the top 10% of my graduating class. Because of my GPA and test scores, I received an Advanced Honors Diploma instead of the standard diploma.
"I was admitted to Spelman in December after applying during their early notification cycle. Throughout the past couple of years, I have participated in a few activities including the National Honor Society, Track and Field, Cross Country, and Krav Maga (a form of martial arts). I have been active in community service projects over the years, dating back to my eighth-grade year.
"In the summer between my freshman and sophomore year of high school, I volunteered at the Sunrise Hospital working at the front desk, rehabilitation unit, and pediatric ER. I spent a total of 153 hours volunteering at the hospital that summer."
She goes on: " I have always been slow to judge people because I understand that everyone has their own demons so you can never know what someone is going through or why they are the way they are. Instead, I focus more on trying to understand people and doing what I can to help them. This is part of the reason why the biomedical engineering field interests me. It presents the opportunity to help those in need in a variety of areas."
Everyone at Goedeker's wishes Akeylah the best. We know she has an incredibly bright future ahead of her.
