Godumai Ravai upma(Broken Wheat Upma)

Here I am blogging about a very traditional breakfast recipe,upma with godhumai ravai(broken wheat).Godhumai ravai is a high fiber ingredient and it is the best alternate for normal rava(cream of wheat). Unlike normal ravai,this broken wheat is very healthy and light on tummy.It is a very much prescribed food for diabetics.You can cook this godhumai ravai almost very much like rava,upma,idly,dosai,kher etc.The aroma of this broken wheat is very enticing and tastes great too.Here is a simple upma brightened with loads of veggies,a wholesome breakfast and very much toddler friendly.

Godhumai ravai(broken wheat) upma recipe
Star ingredients:Broken wheat and veggies
Time:20 minutes
Serves:3
Ingredients:
1 cup broken wheat
3 cups water
2 carrots chopped fine
1/4 cup fresh/frozen green peas
1/4 cup bell pepper chopped fine(yellow)
2 green chillies slit
1 dried red chilli
2 teaspoons gram dal
1 teaspoon urad dal
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1/4 teaspoon asafoetida
10-12Curry leaves 
Crushed ginger
1/2 teaspoon sugar
Salt
Oil to temper
Method:
1.Heat oil to temper in a pressure pan.Temper with mustard,urad,gram dal.Saute ginger,asafoetida,green,red chilli.curry leaves.
2.Add the chopped veggies and saute well.Add sugar and mix well.
3.Add the broken wheat and coat well.Add 2 more teaspoons of oil and coat well again till nice aroma wafts out.
4.Add 3 cups of water and salt.Close the lid and pressure cook up to 4 whistles.
5.Once the pressure is released.mix well and serve hot.
Notes:
1.You can 2 teaspoons of ghee after opening the pan and mix well.
2.Adding sugar gives a very deep flavor to the dish.
3.Instead of chillies you can add crushed black pepper while tempering.
