Asuta Jimon is in a pinch, his dad threw him out of the house, it’s night-time, he has nowhere to go and no one to help him. In the middle of this dire situation he meets Kate, a young girl he wants to help. Soon she decides he would now become her comrade and join Zvezda, the organization she leads and whose goal is to conquer the world.
Of course, Asuta doesn’t believe her right away, but we quickly discover that she is dead serious and that she actually has comrades and that they’re dead serious too and that they actually have the means to succeed. The series is completely centered on this notion of world conquest, it is pretty nice that for once, we follow the ones who want to conquer the world rather than the ones defending it. This is the aspect that drew me right away inside the fantastic world of Zvezda.
The second aspect that completely drew me in is that it’s hilarious. Asuta might be the most normal of them all and it’s exactly why he’s the best to joke about. Absolutely nothing in this series makes sense. Robots and everything work with fuel made of Udo, there’s an ancient civilization hidden under the city, their headquarters can move, and the leader of Zvezda is, after all, a little girl. The ones trying to stop them are young girls too by the way.
The story of
Zvezda doesn’t make sense, it has everything from fights to love stories to dumb situations, and doesn’t even feel finished but somehow, yet I didn’t even mind.
Since I am on the topic of Kate, she is a very demanding little girl who is not so little, she is adorable, yet a brat, very smart but some of her decisions are really stupid. I loved Kate. She is voiced by Kuno Misaki, she was Serara in
Log Horizon and Tama in
Wixoss and she sounds exactly the same in
Zvezda. She does the bratty type really well but it’s a bit sad, I’m pretty sure she can do other things too.
As for our second main character, Asuta Jimon, he seems weak at first but he demonstrates some guts, even if he doesn’t really believe in
Zvezda he wants to fight for Kate’s sake. It’s adorable. He is voiced by Hanae Natsuki, he is getting more roles lately (he was Hikari in
Nagi no Asukara), his voice doesn’t sound too special but it’s consistent.
I cannot stop talking about characters without mentioning Yasu. Actually, I don’t know who the hell Yasu was supporting. Yasu is a traitor with no sense of pride, yet he was a yakuza and still seems to have some bits of loyalty left inside him. I actually liked Yasu, because he was interesting. (And because he was voiced by Kousuke Toriumi.)
Of course I should mention that Hanazawa Kana was in this too. She voiced Natasha, the genius, a very interesting character too and she had that voice of hers I like best.
I highly recommend
Zvezda if you can bear nonsensical anime. But it’s fun I swear! I sure as hell don’t regret watching it.
