Go for Broke: Nobunagun

I am so dead!

Nobunagun is a rather short anime about a girl who takes on the nickname Nobunagun. Why Nobunagun you ask? Because she’s somehow the bearer of the soul of Nobunaga Oda, and because he apparently thought that Nobunagun was a cool nickname. Other than that, she and the other E-gene holders, the other bearers of the souls of famous historical figures, are fighting to save the world.

I am obviously going to complain about the lack of originality of this plot. I do admit that I only watched this at first because there was a mention of Nobunaga in the title, I do admit I totally expected something like this. I did like the fact that, for once, it wasn’t completely Sengoku era inspired. I wasn’t so impressed by the presence of the soul of Jack the Ripper, he definitely is another popular figure in anime. I did fangirl over the presence of Capa though. (Especially since he was voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda. Who came to Japan Expo. Who I love. Who I saw!) Anyway, my point was, this plot was completely unoriginal. I wasn’t impressed by the plot at all. To be completely honest, I wasn’t totally impressed by the characters either. Shio Ogura, our heroine, also known as Nobunagun, is a pretty nice character I must admit. By nice character I mean she has some guts. She is a quiet high school girl most of the time but she also is a military otaku and I found that awfully cute. Her random fangirl outbursts were a nice break in the otherwise pretty heavy atmosphere of the thing. Her seiyuu was Muto Shiori, Ogura was her first role, she hasn’t had any other since then. I wasn’t such a fan of hers, I think the role of Ogura was too much too soon. Second main character was Adam, also known as Jack the Ripper, he probably was my favorite of the whole thing. He was interesting and pretty badass, pretty cute too. I really liked his little love story with Ogura, another nice break in the atmosphere. He was voiced by Suzuki Tatsuhisa, I am biased, this man is awesomely funny. He is pretty good too, but I have the feeling I have already said that not long ago. Other than that, I don’t really know what to say about the characters, as I said, they aren’t the greatest. And Nobunagun was a short anime, not a lot of time for character development. The anime had a few more notable seiyuu though, mostly, Ishida Akira or Kouji Yusa. In the end, the thing I really, really liked (putting seiyuu aside) was the heavy atmosphere of the anime, but it was far from being enough to completely satisfy me. I didn’t find it especially bad, but not particularly good either. Nobunagun is a forgettable anime, you should forget about watching it. The following two tabs change content below.
