Let’s start things off with an album that just might bring last week’s heat wave back: Glory from Britney Spears. Yes, she’s back and just fucking working it as per usual. This will be her ninth studio album, and her career is just as intriguing to watch unfold as ever. To keep you dancing in the same direction, you can plug into Glass Animals’ newest album, How To Be A Human Being. Another recognizable musical force, they incorporate sound effects and water drops to make beats that are uniquely Glass Animals.
To slow things down a bit, Morgan Delt released his second studio album, Phase Zero, and it’s that beautiful mix of desert pop and psychedelic rock you’ll fall in love with. Next, dubbed by many as “one of the great songwriters of his time,” Cass McCombs, released Mangy Love, and he certainly lives up to the title. The driving forces behind what makes his music so hypnotic are easily his lyrics. With hushed guitar strumming in the background and slow jam drums bouncing the song to its end, what’s heard are McCombs’ words, and his words are mesmerizing.
The Veils just dropped their fifth studio album, Total Depravity. If you’re hoping for the beautifully nightmarish vibes The Veils have taken ownership of, then you’re in luck. Total Depravity is languid in it’s takeover and downright powerful in its downtempo beats. To end the week, introduce yourself to Katy Goodman & Greta Morgan’s collaborative album, Take It, It’s Yours. Goodman and Morgan combine impressive harmonies with easy strumming to make punk covers that are moving in their simplicity and haunting in their delivery.
