Speaking in response to reports that a police officer was stabbed in an incident in Glasgow earlier today, David Hamilton, president of the Scottish Police Federation, said: "Although there is a understandable and considerable public interest in the major Glasgow incident earlier today, our goal right now is to help the family of our seriously injured colleague.
It is obviously an anxious time for them and we ask that they be left alone because their attentions are very obviously directed to the care of their loved one, "said Hamilton.
"Our thoughts, prayers and best wishes are with our colleague, family and friends, as well as all the colleagues affected by this incident at this time."
