Eventually! Not since Gordon Ramsay at Amaryllis, which was a restaurant located in the One Devonshire Gardens hotel, has Glasgow held a Michelin Star. In this craziest of times, Cail Bruich did it.
On her win Chef Lorna McKnee commented:
“Winning a Michelin star has been a dream of mine since I became a chef. The feeling of achieving it is better than I could have ever imagined. The best feeling for me though, is seeing the happiness on my team members’ faces knowing that all our hard work and sacrifice has been worthwhile. It is amazing to share it with them. I’m so proud, it is a dream come true.”
Cail Bruich’s owners Paul and Chris Charalambous, added:

To achieve Glasgow’s first star in 18 years, and in my home city is the dream of a lifetime. Once restrictions are lifted it will be open for five and nine course tasting menus at lunch (Thursday – Saturday 12-1.30pm) and dinner (Wednesday – Saturday 6.30 – 9pm.)

Whether the guide should have gone ahead in these testing times is another discussion but they did it and well done to them.
This year the ceremony was held online and marked the launch of the MICHELIN Guide Great Britain and Ireland 2021, which will be a digital-only publication to take into account industry recovery from Covid-19 and to offer users more modern and engaging resources via the app and on guide.michelin.com.
17 restaurants had been newly awarded a Michelin Star. This brings the total number of One Starred restaurants in the 2021 guide to 158.
Well done Cail Bruich and here’s hoping that many more join next year – there’s at least surely a Bib Gourmand for Ka Pao?
