Of all the eccentric characters in Stars Hollow, one stands out when it comes to quirky ideas and off-the-wall plans. Taylor Doose (Michael Winters), owner of Doose’s Market and Taylor’s Olde Fashioned Soda Shoppe, town selectman, gateway to the town elders, chairman of the historical society and who knows how many other (probably) made up positions. He always seemed to be angling for something or other and never did anything unless he could benefit from it. Even still, Taylor has always been a hoot to watch on screen and we can’t wait to see him back in action for Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. Find our favorite Taylor shenanigans below!
Nov 8- Top 5 Taylor Shenanigans
Hannah- Taylor moves the gazebo for the Hay Bale Maze. (S7E18)
This guy is just crazy. Blowing the entire budget of the Spring Festival for a hay bale maze? Maybe in the fall that would have made sense, or at least, more sense? Taylor Doose craziness at it’s finest.
Lisa- Taylor wanting to keep birds from landing on poles. (S3E6)
Taylor Doose: The bottom line is that too many birds are landing atop the streetlights and relieving themselves on helpless passersby. And I daresay that some of these birds seem to be doing it on purpose. Babette Dell: You get dumped on, Taylor? Taylor Doose: It’s not just me. Luke Danes: Hey, if anybody has a picture of Taylor getting dumped on, I’ll pay top dollar. Kirk Gleason: I’ll check the internet. Miss Patty: Taylor, all animals have to… you know. How are you gonna stop birds from doing that? Taylor Doose: Easy. You put sharp metal spikes on the top of the fixtures. Then when they land, pow! They’re shish kebab! Rory Gilmore: That’s cruel. Babette Dell: You can’t do that. Andrew: I’d rather have bird crap fall on my head. Lorelai Gilmore: There it is, our new town slogan. Rory Gilmore: I like it. Lorelai Gilmore: I see coffee mugs, T-shirts. Rory Gilmore: Don’t forget the stuffed shish-kebab birds. Lorelai Gilmore: That moan when you squeeze them!
Sairah- Taylor calls a town meeting in the middle of the night (S6E12)
This just solidifies the absurdness of Taylor Doose.
Cassie- The window in the diner/soda shoppe (S4E1)
Taylor: You don’t have to yell, Luke. Luke: You put a giant window in my wall. Taylor: So what?
It seems like Taylor gets some devilish enjoyment out of riling Luke up with his nonsense. In fact, it’s almost like he does things with the explicit intent to annoy, frustrate or get a rise out of Luke. And Luke never seems to disappoint… and I have to admit, I kind of get some enjoyment out of Luke being riled up too.
Aubrey- Stars Hollow’s first traffic light and metered crosswalk (S2E3)
Luke: What authority did you have to authorize this? You’re supposed to inform local business owners of major projects per the town’s rules, meaning me.
Taylor: Not when it’s a matter of dire public safety, where the city charter clearly states that I can function unilaterally in the town’s best interest.
Luke: Dire public safety! We haven’t had an accident here in ten years!
Taylor: You can’t stop progress Luke.
