Getting Back on Track

By Leslielazard @leslielazard

For the past few weeks, I’ve been in somewhat of a slump. Blame it on Mardi Gras coming and going too quickly, but overall I’ve just been a bit tired, overwhelmed and burned out. I definitely don’t want to come off as complaining, because I absolutely have a bunch of great things going on in my life, but I’m sure we all can relate to that feeling of needing just an itsy bitsy, teeny tiny break. Well guys, even though I’d love nothing more than to take an impromptu extended vacation, the show must go on. It can be a bit difficult to muster up the effort to get shit done in a slump, but you definitely feel a lot better when you kick your to do list in the butt, instead of getting so overwhelmed that you just decide to take a nap instead. Yep, I’ve been there. Instead of facing everything with a nap (I know, very tempting) I like to stick to a few tried and true to help get me back on track during a slump.

Set new goals.

Nothing motivates me more than taking a fresh look at the various goals I’ve set for myself.  Every now and then I like to look over my older goals, and revamp or tweak them according to the progress I’ve made on them. It definitely helps if I’ve managed to totally check a goal off too!  Also, nothing is more motivating than setting a couple of new goals for yourself. Works like a charm every time.

Remember why you started.

I think a lot of times we get so caught up in our day to day work that we forget why we’re actually working so hard in the first place. Maybe you’re saving up for something special or a big purchase, or vying for a promotion the office. Whatever the desired outcome may be, keep focusing on the finish line and the reason why you’re actually working so hard to begin with.

Find inspiration.

And when I say inspiration, I don’t mean Pinterest. At least not this time around. Read a book about a person who has achieved success in your industry or someone you’re inspired by, reach out to an industry peer you admire and invite them out for coffee, or get a daily devotional and spend some tine each morning reflecting on that day’s reading – inspiration can be found all around us, we just have to take the time out to find it.
