It’s that time of year again! February is almost here, No Buy Month is back and we have a week to prepare! The point of No Buy Month is to put you on a bit of a financial diet and to show you how to reign in your spending. Is it challenging? Yes. Impossible? Nope. The rules are simple…
The Rules…
Why participate?
Some people have asked me why on earth someone would every want to attempt a challenge like this? Well, hopefully you will not be laid off from your job, or have a major health concern, or a devastating financial challenge like an accident or a divorce. But if you do, wouldn’t it be easier to navigate if you already had the practice? Think about it. Any athlete will tell you that training is everything. If you train yourself to get through the tough financial times, you’ll make smarter decisions to get through unscathed. This month challenges you to buy only what you need and reuse what you have. I cannot take credit for this concept. In fact, the first time I heard about it was from The Frugalista Natalie P. Neal, who coined the concept on her blog and in her book The Frugalista Files.
Last year we all encouraged each other with comments on posts and weekly checkins on Facebook and Twitter. I encourage you to join in on the fun! Preparation is definitely key. If you’re going to bring your coffee and lunch to work instead of buying it, you’re going to make sure you have a travel mug and a lunchbox to bring it in. To learn about how else to prepare checkout What to Buy For No Buy Month. If you participated last year, check the list again to make sure you have everything!
